I am new to therapy, or I have been through this before….What will the first and second session be like?
Your first session will be a Clinical Diagnostic Intake. Many times a preliminary diagnosis or presenting problem will be explored. You will have a chance to share your primary concerns and begin to share details of what changes you are hoping to make. Dr. Lemos-Miller will ask you questions about your habits and day-to-day routines, as well as relevant history.
Your second session will provide an integrated feedback summary from your intake findings. A preliminary treatment plan will be presented and collaborative feedback will be collected from each client, to formalize your treatment plan. Initial goals for the change process may also be set in this session.
How will I know if you are the right “fit” and Clinician for my needs?
Collaboration and mutual feedback is highly encouraged in this therapy practice. Client feedback is valuable to your success. You can provide feedback about your treatment goals and priorities, and let Dr. Lemos-Miller know if you need more tools or active listening support. If you decide that therapy is not working for you, a respectful exploration can take place of your clinical needs. Referrals can also be provided if you request another mental health service or clinician. You are the priority in this relationship, this is a safe space.
How long does therapy last?
There is no specific timeline or deadline for therapy services. Sometimes clients benefit from short term solution focused therapy which can range from 4-8 sessions. Some Evidence-Based Therapies can be 8-12 sessions. Other people may find that long term therapy best supports their developmental needs during their phase of life. How long therapy will last, and how often, will be determined mutually by the doctor and by the client.
Can I request office/in-person visits?
